Our Hermes Ha Long Bay Cruise Experience
Just two days after Typhoon Yagi, we went to Ha Long Bay and saw the storm's impact all over Hanoi's Old Quarter with damaged buildings and uprooted trees. Despite that, the energy of the people helping and trying to recover was so reassuring that we felt confident the trip would go well, and we were grateful that we trusted them.
We took a late-night flight from Manila and arrived in Hanoi past 1 AM. After getting SIM cards and withdrawing money, we caught a cab to Hanoi Opera Suites for a short stay and rested for a couple of hours. The bus to Ha Long picked us up on time from the hotel at exactly 8:00 AM and communicated with us on WhatsApp. The bus was very nice and comfortable, and the 3-hour trip north was smooth. We reached the port by 11AM and got a welcome drink right away. We had a buffet lunch and then started our first day's adventure. We enjoyed a bamboo boat ride at Luon Cave and visited Titov Island, hoping for a panoramic view. However, there was so much debris that we decided not to climb the peak for safety. At about 5 PM, we headed back to the cruise to freshen up in our cozy room with a veranda. We had coffee and enjoyed the views of Ha Long Bay. Before dinner, we had some snacks and happy hour while making fresh spring rolls, which was a lot of fun. Dinner was amazing and beyond our expectations.
On the second day, we started early with coffee and a breakfast buffet. We explored Sung Sot Cave, the largest cave in the area, which was really impressive. After that, we had lunch on the boat and headed back to the port. Unfortunately, because of the weather, we couldn't try squid fishing or Tai Chi.
