Scenic Maira-ira Cove - Blue Lagoon Pagudpud Ilocos Norte

Maira-ira Cove commonly known as The Blue lagoon is nestled in Maira ira Point – Luzon's mainland’s northernmost tip. Maira-ira Cove is one of the most scenic beaches I have seen so far – it is simple and unspoiled. The white sand is shining and finely pristine, the water is amazingly clear on the shore transforming to bright azure as it grows deep and reflecting the sky drawing its horizon. Then I keep saying “now I know why its called Blue lagoon”.



According to Chad, the resort owner and manager the cove's water can be as calm as pond on April, as its when amihan (cool northeast wind) rest from blowing and bringing huge wave in this side of the island.

We went there last week of January, the month when the waves is less than enough for the surfers and more than enough for those who just want to swim and enjoy the beach. Most of the tourist opted to stay on the foot deep and wait for the wave to splash – so as us.

How to get to Maira-ira Cove Blue lagoon:

Coming from Manila you can take any bus to Laoag, Ilocos Norte or take a plane Manila to Laoag. From any point in Laoag, take a tricycle going to Pagudpud terminal. Tell the conductor to drop you off at Pagudpud Municipal Hall where in you can see a lot of tricycle you can hire going to blue lagoon.

If you are coming from the neighboring Saud beach, Pagudpud you can take a tricycle to the highway, to the clamshell monument and wait for any Cagayan-bound bus. Again, get down at Gawa and take a tricycle to the beach. You can also opt to take a direct tricycle transfers from Saud to Maira-ira which can cost you anywhere around 300-500.
